Police Officer Impersonator Allegedly Stole Corvette at Hard Rock Hollywood Casino

November 04, 2025

On Monday afternoon, a 60-year-old man from Florida attempted to steal a Chevrolet Corvette from a Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino valet entrance by pretending to be a police officer.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. EST on Monday, officers from the Hollywood command of the Seminole Police Department were there when valet employees called out for assistance.  A man wearing a polo shirt with Florida Department of Corrections insignia swiftly leaped into a speeding Corvette and fled, the parking attendants said to the on-call police officer.

"That’s not his car!” an attendant reportedly screamed toward the police officer.

In order to prevent the Corvette from leaving the casino grounds, the Seminole Police officer swiftly relocated his vehicle.  The motorist, later identified as Miami Gardens resident Angel Emilio Diez, 60, was observed throwing out a marijuana joint.

Diez allegedly admitted to police that he wasn't posing as a law enforcement officer and that he got the Florida Department of Corrections clothing from a thrift store.

Theft Prevented

Diez was charged with four offenses by Broward County prosecutors: grand theft auto, trespassing, impersonating a law enforcement official, and tampering with tangible evidence.  The charges of impersonation, tampering, and grand theft auto are all class three felonies.

Diez was already banned from Seminole Hard Rock for life, which is the reason behind the trespassing allegation.  Diez is accused of trying to hide the marijuana cigarette during the arrest, which is the basis for the tampering charge.

Diez is still being held in the Main Jail in Broward County.  According to court documents, the $3,750 bond that was initially offered for his release was later withdrawn.  A court hearing is not listed in the records.

Diez's criminal history is extensive.  He was convicted in November 2023 of misdemeanor petty theft and third-degree felony criminal use of a personal identify.  Last year, he was detained and accused of misdemeanor petit theft once more, but he never appeared in court.

Police claimed Diez had an outstanding warrant related to the 2024 charge at the time of the alleged theft of the Corvette at Seminole Hard Rock.

Potential Prison Time

Diez could spend years in prison if found guilty of the grand auto theft accusation, as Hard Rock's extensive camera monitoring is expected to be used in the prosecution's case.  Regardless of the value of the stolen car, any motor vehicle theft is classified as "grand theft auto" under Florida law.

A person convicted of third-degree grand theft might spend up to five years behind bars.  Since F3 grand theft charges are usually reserved for thefts of items valued up to $20K, the charge could be upgraded to a second or first-degree felony.

The year, model, and condition of the allegedly stolen black Corvette Diez were not specified by the police.
