Atlantic City Casino Profits Drop in 2025 As Bally’s Posts Operating Loss

April 09, 2026

According to recent regulatory data, the profitability of the Atlantic City casino business is declining as maintaining a resort property along the New Jersey beach has become more challenging due to inflationary and discretionary consumer spending pressures.

According to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), the nine resorts' net revenue in 2025 was $3.24 billion, up 0.6% from the year before. Casino, lodging, food and drink, entertainment, and other resort property revenue are all included in net revenue.

The casinos' gross operating profits fell 1.4% to $665.42 million even though they were able to collect slightly more spending.

According to the DGE, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization, affiliate fees, and other incidentals are shown in gross operating profit. According to the state regulator, "it is a widely accepted measure of profitability in the Atlantic City gaming industry."

Despite a 2% increase in net revenue, casino profits fell 7.1% in the last quarter, marking a dismal conclusion to 2025.

The Atlantic City Squeeze

Concerns regarding the casino town in New Jersey are highlighted in the Atlantic City profit report for 2025. In the near future, Atlantic City may look very different due to pressure from downstate New York, where three casinos are scheduled to operate in the upcoming years.

Inflation-adjusted consumer expenditure was flat in February, according to a study released today by the US Bureau of Economic Analysis. In the upcoming months, inflation is predicted to only rise as a result of the US confrontation with Iran, further straining the consumer spending index.

Four of the nine casinos in Atlantic City witnessed a decline in 2025 profits, indicating that they are already suffering the effects of the economic downturn. Harrah's bottom line dropped 12% to $56.5 million, Tropicana's profit dropped 25% to $61.8 million, and Caesars' operating result fell 40% to $34.1 million.

The largest loser was Bally's, whose operating profit fell 210% to a net operating loss of $2.8 million.

Bally's Corporation is still losing money on the Boardwalk site even after a $100 million renovation was finished in 2024. Given that its parent corporation is responsible for the $4 billion Bally's Bronx development in Ferry Point Park, Bally's would be the most likely casino to close in Atlantic City.

The most lucrative casino in Atlantic City is still Borgata. The gross operating profit for the MGM Resorts property was $237.4 million, a 14% increase from the previous year.

Golden Nugget was the greatest year-over-year winner, with its bottom line rising 57% to $28.3 million, primarily due to its online gaming business.

Results of Room Occupancy

In 2025, 71.2% of the available nites in Atlantic City's 15,424 casino hotel rooms were occupied, a little decrease from 72% in 2024. In 2024, the average nightly cost dropped from $178 to $175.

Although rooms were far less expensive at $142, Atlantic City's casino hotels reported an occupancy rate of around 79% prior to the pandemic in 2019.
